  i'm thrilled to tell you about the latest court decision made in california a few days ago which kimberlee norris said would be announced today, monday, on jwd.. on july 3rd, i started a thread where the last two rulings in the napa county, california lawsuit, charissa w. v. watchtower, new york, et al., were posted.

  both decisions were favorable to the plaintiff.

  Where, I wonder, is a copy of the confidential elders letter that gave that directive to write such notes in the margin? Any elders out there with such a letter in their file? Or another confidential letter saying that certain previous confidential letters were to be destroyed?

  Jourles is correct. The wording of these notes will have been read out by the circuit overseer, from a letter he will have received from WT. Any circuit overseers reading this prepared to post a scan of the letter?

  There is a confidential letter to that effect that hit the congregations in UK, and someone here borrowed the letter from the CO somehow(!) and had a notarized copy made at a lawyers office before taking it back. Whoever has a link to that, could it be posted here? I wonder if an internal memo like that (even though for the UK and not the US) might help prove negligence on the part of the WTS.

  As an aside, referring to the Court's ruling on Watchtower's Motion To Quash Service of Summons, Jourles wrote:

  The KHAA is an insurance program designed to help cover substantial losses to KH's. Although this program is termed "voluntary," ALL California KH's use this program. The congregations are sent invoices to pay their "contributions." The court characterized the collection of this money "as insurance premiums, regardless of how they are labeled by the defendant."

  This got me wondering whether, irrespective of whether or not Watchtower decides to appeal the Court's Denial of Writ, the above ruling will be transmitted to the IRS and result in Watchtower's losing their charity status, as they are clearly engaging in the business of property insurance?

  If not, can someone here pass this information on to them?

  Security Warning

  May I urgently suggest you don't send out any more copies until you've checked that the Word document doesn't contain any personal information that might identify you, or whoever created the file?

  Many people don't realise that Microsoft Word (from memory, all versions) -- without warning or asking permission -- embeds personally identifiable information in documents you create. Open the document in Word, then select File | Properties, and check each of the tabs...

  You can remove this personal information by:

  • saving as a text file (File | Save As, then select Save as type: Plain text), but you will lose all formatting;
  • saving a 'clean' version of the file by selecting File | Remove Hidden Data (but can we trust Microsoft to remove everything?);
  • (my favourite): use one of the free PDF file creation utilities (e.g. PrimoPDF) to create a PDF file of your document (just make sure the PDF software doesn't embed your personal details!).

  the spin on downsizing is apparently "go out into the field" yet when the gb initially considered this it must have been presented as a practical problem - too much surplus hr capacity/ too expensive to maintain - or whatever and yet they turned it into a positive matter by stressing the return to the field - all those in such discussions are clearly able to deceive themselves as much as they try and deceive the "flock" - what do you think - did a discussion on a practical problem have to have a positive outcome and how did they twist their minds so as to sell it as such - for years they begged people to stay in bethel service (make it your home for life) and now they cast them out into the world with the thin veneer of "speedin g up the preaching work .. etc".

  all those at the top must have been involved in turning this huge embarrasment (jehovah will provide etc) into a positive spin - they should try out for a marketing award "downsizing - the only way to grow!

  What-A-Coincidence,

  the society purchased a million dollar program called SAP that handled the management of stock and inventory and EVERYTHING else that got rid of programmers and stupid WT built software.

  I'm told that while the software cost a million, it was more than that again for the cost of all the consultants involved in setting it up and configuring it.

  subsequently, this subject caught the interest of media throughout the world who, through careful investigation, substantiated the allegations made on dateline.

  Incidentally, the link to 'Berlin Online' points to an article in German. I don't speak German and tried running the article through a number of web translation engines, each of which was spectacularly, if uniquely, unsuccessful. :)

  I've not been here much lately, so perhaps it's been mentioned and I've just missed it, but d o you have any more specific information on how the authorities picked up on this problem, what they have done, and what has been the ('snowball') effect?

  From Gilead School: Two missionarys sent to USA and Canada

  at the meeting this week, when discussing the marvellous increase that jehovah is blessing us with, a brother who had .

  attended the gilead graduation said that two missionaries had been assigned to countries where you would least imagine they would be sent.. one is going to serve in north america, the other in canada.. .

  another brother, a bethelite, said that there are too many workers there, so the society is stressing great emphasis on the field activity and many.

  Have you noticed nobody ever 'fails' at the Gilead 'school,' but if some flunk the course, they are sent back to their 'home' territory. It is hoped they will cause minimal damage if they return to where they came from.

  It doesn't happen very often, of course, because of the heavy pre-admission screening that goes on (have you seen the multiple forms that applicants have to complete before being accepted?). But then, the Firm is investing real money in these guys and gals, unlike, say, appointing elders, which only needs a rubber stamp and some holy spirit™...

  So, it's probably worth checking if the guy sent to North America is a US citizen, and if the guy sent to Canada is a Canadian citizen. If so, their credentials are likely to be highly dubious!
